This blog contains the thoughts and rants of Aled Treharne. A voice over IP and networking specialist from South Wales, UK by day; I have a fairly in-depth interest in technical subjects regarding networking, voice and computers and the Internet in general.
In addition to the time I spend on computers, I have a few interests outside of work, especially in voluntary medical care. In no particular order they are:
- Walking
- I thoroughly enjoy spending time walking up and down various mountains. Some might point out that this is a futile task as once you’re actually at the top, there’s not much to do other than look around and come back down again. But then, that’s life really.
- Mountain Rescue
- Following fairly naturally along from walking and general mountaineering is the time I spend volunteering with the Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team. We train once a week on a Thursday night in Merthyr Tydfil, have one Sunday per month on exercise somewhere in the Brecon Beacons, and respond to callouts 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. We’re an entirely voluntary service, if anyone fancies helping out by donating, head over to www.cbmrt.org.uk and see how you can help.
- St John Ambulance
- As well as helping people on the mountains of south Wales, I’m also a member of Cardiff Central Division, St John Ambulance. This involves things like first aid cover for events and assisting the NHS Ambulance Service with their role. You’ll most often find me dressed in green wandering around Cardiff in an ambulance on weekends.
- Role Playing
- When I’m not saving people’s lives, I’m coming up with ways to kill them. I enjoy playing a little Dungeons and Dragons from time to time, and I’m currently running a game based around Lloyd Alexander’s Chronicles of Prydain.
