It’s 2010 and right right in the middle of an episode of Stargate SG1, it’s BEEEP BEEEP BEEEP. The message comes through after a scramble to get changed and grab my kit – the team is on standby for a search for a missing female. I grab my stuff and fill the car, and the pager’s off again – 999! Right, that’s it! In the car, check the voicebank and it’s an RV of Cowbridge Police Station, so I call Mal to see if he wants a lift. He’s legging it out of the pub and across Cardiff to get his stuff, and I arrange to grab him at the house. Down through the village and the pager’s off again…then it’s Mal ringing….I know what this is.
Stand down, out at 2030.
She’s been found, in hospital. Mal’s off back to the pub and I turn around and trundle home to watch the rest of SG1 (thanks to Sky+).
Another average night for the Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team.
